Are you ready to have a pet dog in your home? If you are, then it is highly advisable for you to find out which breeds would not only suit your personality but also your lifestyle. You may be a real dog lover, but if you choose to care for dog that does not really suit you, then you and your dog will not really enjoy your time together. Caring for a dog is a long term commitment, so be sure you are ready.

But when does puppy training really start? What are the different signs that he is ready to be taught to do different things?

Formal School Training

This should start when your dog is around 4 months old. Dog trainers will also accept puppies that have been vaccinated to make sure that he is protected from canine diseases and other forms of infections. Vaccinations can also help protect the trainers and those other dogs in his class. Be sure to find reliable dog trainers and training schools to make sure that your puppy will learn everything he needs to learn.

Informal or In-House Training

Now, should you decide to train your dog to obey instructions and get used to being around many people, training should start as soon as your bring him home with you. Of course, it should not be as intense and structured during the first few days; you need to allow him to adjust to the new environment before you impose strict rules and lengthen your training sessions. Start with sessions that last for about 5 to 10 minutes. This will help your puppy get used to your voice and your training strategies. Increase the length of your sessions as weeks go by.

Your puppy should be able to learn and develop his social skills, bring out his true cute and cuddly personality, and in-home behavior such as learning how to go potty at the designated place. With the right training and of course your guidance, you new best friend will be home ready in no time.
